Matter of Britain (2026)
Matter of Britain was a community performance by an English country village of the Holy Grail myth. In that myth, people quest for the Holy Grail to heal their wasted land. Over 300 members of the rural community took part in the performance across 12 months. They became questing knights, angelic choirs, guiding anchorites and tempting devils. Along the way, the film documents the entangled lives of workers, animals and landscapes in our time of climate collapse.
The performance was documented and the subsequent ethnographic fantasy has screened at the Museum of Modern Art, CPH:DOX, Cinéma du Réel, Open City Documentary Film Festival and the Museum of English Rural Life. The project was supported by Arts Council England, the Lund Trust, High Weald AONB, East Sussex Arts Partnership and the University of Reading.
